Field answers
Frequently asked questions
Quick orientation for branches, maps, data quality, beginner choices, and how to read a guide in a game that keeps changing.
What is The Isle: Evrima?
Evrima is the actively developed branch of The Isle, with its own roster, maps, combat, diet, and lifecycle systems. It differs substantially from Legacy.
Is this an official The Isle website?
No. The Isle Field Guide is an independent fan resource and is not affiliated with Afterthought LLC.
Why do some guides avoid exact growth or damage numbers?
Those values are patch-sensitive and may also differ on community servers. We publish exact values only when they can be attached to a current branch, patch, and review date.
Which map should a current Evrima player learn?
Gateway is the current Evrima reference. Isla Spiro and Legacy maps remain in the index so older videos and server references can be identified correctly.
What do LMB, RMB, Tap, and Hold mean?
LMB means the left mouse button and RMB means the right mouse button. Tap means press once and release. Hold means keep the button pressed until the action completes or the guide tells you to release it. The controls guide explains these labels before listing any bindings.
Where can I find the exact controls for my creature?
Open that creature's dossier and read Controls & core tools. It explains the input, the action, and when to use it. Always compare it with the live in-game Controls menu after a patch or personal remap.
What do Live, Hordetest, and Announced mean?
Live means the creature is listed for the current public branch tracked by this guide. Hordetest marks test-branch availability. Announced means it is known but not treated as a playable public-branch creature, so unverified controls are not presented as fact.
What is the best beginner dinosaur?
A mobile, lower-commitment creature usually teaches routes and survival more efficiently than an apex. Choose a clear role, then learn one food-water-cover loop before chasing fights.
How do I use coordinates copied from the Gateway map?
Use the coordinate readout to identify or share a point, then navigate with nearby rivers, roads, elevation, and visible landmarks. Coordinates are an aid, not a safe route: check stamina, cover, and water-edge risk before moving.
How is the tier list judged?
It ranks broad solo-survival and encounter control, not guaranteed duel wins. Growth stage, terrain, group size, player execution, patch balance, and server rules can all move a matchup away from the editorial tier.
Is Baryonyx playable now?
This guide currently marks Baryonyx as Announced, not Live. Its page is a clearly labeled watch page and does not invent a control scheme before public-branch behavior can be verified.
Where do patch summaries come from?
Release facts link back to official Steam announcements. Our summaries add independent field context without copying the full official post.
Can community servers change the experience?
Yes. Rules and settings may affect growth, grouping, combat expectations, nesting, and other systems. Read the server description and rules before using a guide.
