A nursery is defensible when supply trips do not reveal it and both adults and hatchlings can use more than one exit.

Field principleUse the current in-game UI and official patch notes for exact values. This guide focuses on repeatable decisions that remain useful when balance values move.

1. Confirm reproductive options

Check the live character panel and server rules for pairing, sex, fertility, parthenogenesis, sequential hermaphroditism, egg availability, and inheritance. These systems can change between patches.

2. Solve logistics before decoration

Parents need food, water, concealment, turning room, and an escape plan. A scenic nest that requires repeated crossings through a busy route will eventually reveal itself.

3. Select two evacuation paths

Choose one primary departure and one route that works when the first is watched. Test whether adult and hatchling body sizes can actually use both paths.

4. Separate the supply route from the nursery

Stage carried food, change approach angles, limit calls, and rotate which parent travels. A straight trail from a carcass or migration zone teaches predators exactly where the nest is.

5. Give hatchlings a behavior plan

Before danger arrives, define the regroup call, hiding pocket, water approach, and direction to flee. Uncoordinated offspring often reveal a nest that the parents placed correctly.

6. Choose mutations around one purpose

Build toward travel, endurance, defense, sensing, reproduction, or a species mechanic. Verify eligibility and inheritance before promising a fixed build to the group.

Session checklist

  • Current fertility rules checked
  • Two exits tested at adult and hatchling sizes
  • Parent supply loop established
  • Calls and approach directions controlled
  • Evacuation behavior explained
  • Mutation purpose agreed

Questions players ask

Can I create a nest alone?

Only when the current build, mutation access, and server rules support the required reproductive option.

How close should a nest be to water?

Close enough to supply without creating an obvious straight trail or forcing the family onto one bank.

Should parents fight for a discovered nest?

Only when the matchup and exits support it. Evacuating surviving offspring can be the better lineage decision.

What is the best mutation build?

One that reinforces a clear species and group plan. There is no permanent build across every patch, server, and role.
