Diet & migration

Read nutrient targets, use migration and patrol information, and build a food route that does not turn every meal into an ambush.

What matters first

  • Diet targets differ by species and can change in a patch
  • Migration and patrol zones concentrate both resources and danger
  • A complete route needs more than one food option
  • The in-game diet panel outranks an old screenshot or community list

Read the diet panel before traveling

Identify the foods currently accepted by your species and the nutrient slot each one supports. Do this after spawning and after a major update; memorized lists are useful only while the live build still agrees with them.

Treat migration as traffic information

A migration indicator tells herbivores where suitable plants may concentrate and tells predators where herbivores may travel. Approach the edge first, listen, and decide whether the resource is worth joining the same route as everyone else.

Use patrol zones as opportunities, not orders

Carnivore patrol information can support hunting and movement, but following it blindly produces predictable paths. Enter with stamina, identify a recovery pocket, and leave when activity no longer supports the risk.

Build a two-source plan

Pair a preferred food target with a lower-risk fallback. The second option prevents one guarded carcass, empty plant zone, or missing AI spawn from controlling the whole life.

Leave after the meal solves the problem

A full nutrient slot does not make the feeding area safer. Carcasses attract scavengers, migration attracts hunters, and repeated calls reveal groups. Feed, reassess, then move before the next player arrives on the same information.

Session checklist

  • Confirm current diet targets
  • Mark a primary and backup food source
  • Approach zones from cover
  • Keep an exit and stamina reserve
  • Leave once the resource goal is complete

Questions players ask

Do migration zones stay in one place?

Do not assume they do. Follow the current in-game indicator and expect updates to alter locations or behavior.

Should I remain in a migration zone after feeding?

Only when terrain, group strength, and exits justify the incoming traffic. Completing the diet is usually the signal to reduce exposure.

Why is a listed food missing?

AI availability, zone behavior, a patch, or server settings may differ from the guide. Recheck the live panel and move to the backup route.

Can grazing replace a proper herbivore diet?

Treat grazing as an emergency hunger buffer. It does not replace a planned nutrient route.
