Hunger, thirst & stamina

Manage the resource loop behind travel, drinking, combat, flight, climbing, oxygen, and almost every failed escape.

Precision policyThis page avoids fixed timers and rates unless they can be tied to a current patch source. The concept should survive the next rebalance.

What matters first

  • Never spend the last stamina on an uncertain action
  • Water is a predictable ambush boundary
  • Hunger pressure should change the route before it becomes an emergency
  • Oxygen, bleed, fractures, and sickness can change ordinary recovery

Read the next failure, not only the lowest meter

The lowest bar is not always the first problem to solve. A thirsty creature with no stamina cannot safely cross to water; a hungry flyer with no landing plan cannot use the food it sees. Order the decisions by what can kill the run first.

Drink as if something is watching

Stop short of the bank, listen, inspect surface movement, and choose the shortest stationary exposure. Aquatic predators understand common drinking geometry, while land predators understand the cover around it.

Keep an escape reserve

Stamina is the option to correct a mistake. Sprinting, pouncing, charging, climbing, flying, bucking, and some attacks compete for that option. Enter contact with enough stamina to leave after the first plan fails.

Recover where the body can still react

Rest behind broken sightlines without wedging the creature into rocks, steep slopes, or a dead end. Large animals need turning space; flyers need a takeoff lane; semi-aquatics need more than one bank.

Respect secondary status pressure

Bleed rewards movement pressure, fractures change locomotion, venom and bacteria create delayed danger, and oxygen controls underwater decisions. Open the status report rather than guessing why normal recovery is failing.

Session checklist

  • Solve meters before they become red emergencies
  • Inspect water from cover
  • Enter danger with an exit reserve
  • Rest in reactive terrain
  • Check the status panel after unusual damage

Questions players ask

When should I rest?

Before a forced crossing or expected encounter, in terrain that breaks sightlines without trapping your body.

Why avoid exact regeneration numbers?

They are balance-sensitive and may differ under server settings. The safe decision is based on having a reserve, not memorizing one old rate.

Why did stamina stop feeling normal?

Growth stage, injury, terrain, weather systems, active abilities, mutations, or a patch may affect behavior. Check the live HUD and status panel.

Should I sprint to water when thirst is low?

Only if the route is already safe. Arriving exhausted at an ambush point removes the ability to react.
